Materials Scientist – Metals (m/f/d)

Your tasks:
- Plan, manage and deliver various metal alloy focussed R&D/innovation projects
- Conduct research and development related to metals, including the potential development of new alloys, surface treatments, and testing methodologies
- Analyze data from internal and external experiments and to synthesise concepts, conceive ideas and develop simulations, models, samples and physical prototypes
- Work with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for the use of new metals or metal alloys in our products
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality control teams to ensure that metals used in our prototypes and products meet the company’s standards
- Conduct technical feasibility assessments, and evaluate various alloys for applications in travel-goods and luggage
- Conduct and support various prototyping activities internally and with external partners
- Identify areas for product optimisation and improvement, especially in terms of performance and sustainability
- Identify new technologies and techniques such as additive manufacturing
- Create reports, presentations and briefings for internal teams and managers
- Keep up-to-date with the latest advances in metalworking technology and research
Your profile:
- Enthusiastic about working in the luggage and travel-goods industry.
- Passionate about the creation and application of innovative and sustainable new materials
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in engineering or chemistry, specialising in metallurgy, inorganic chemistry or a closely related field.
- 3-5 years of experience with analysing, developing and specifying materials, especially metal alloys for automotive, aeronautics or packaging applications
- Knowledge of recycling and circular industrial practices, which give you insights into their application in the fields mentioned above.
- Experience with additives, pigments and decorative materials used in the consumer goods & packaging industries.
- R&D experience working with external partners such as commercial raw material suppliers, material fabricators and transformers, universities, and other research organisations
- Possessing a collaborative approach to project work whilst still able to work autonomously on multiple projects at any one time
- Ability to think flexibly and laterally, with a willingness to explore new solutions, test new ideas and concepts
- Good understanding of general sustainability topics related to design engineering and manufacturing
- Results-oriented, detail oriented
- Possess project management, time management, organisational, written and verbal communication skills
- Proven experience and proficiency in relevant software
