Hybrid remote
You will combine the principles of engineering and product development with your own experience to ensure solutions are robust and meet all requirements, and will be regarded as a credible mechanical authority who makes sound engineering judgements which are balanced with the need to meet tight deadlines. Additionally, you will act as a key support by taking a hands-on role in projects.
Day-to-day, you will:
Act as a mechanical design authority on projects, guiding the technical decisions and ensuring there are sufficient calculations and analysis to substantiate the final outcome.
Ensure that solutions take into account the needs of all disciplines and stake-holders.
Demonstrate a thorough and logical working practise, documenting decisions, calculations and evidence at every step of development.
Promote the use of a wide variety of tools to ensure designs are robust and optimised for manufacture.
Encourage creativity in problem solving, the use of experiments and early prototyping in order to reach the best outcome as quickly as possible.
Apply diverse experience to ensure all factors required for successful outcomes are considered, for example EMC, regulatory compliance, weight and cost management.
Ensure both project and technical risks are mitigated while schedules are met.
Have a hands on approach, taking on designing components, sub-systems and products where needed.
Perform prototyping, testing and other empirical analysis.
About You:
You will have:
A proven track record of designing complex electromechanical automation systems or machines for high volume production and high reliability.
Familiar with designing for manufacture in volumes up to 20K P/A.
A good Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Mechanical Engineering qualification with experience.
Experience acting as the mechanical design authority on multi-disciplinary projects.
A knowledge of relevant technological developments and design methods.
Familiar with risk identification and activities to de-risk designs.
Demonstrable expertise in using CAD software including substantial experience draughting to BS8888 with the use of GD&T.
The ability to work within a team on multiple projects, to prioritise tasks and to manage your own time autonomously in a fast-paced, changing environment.
This would make you stand out from the crowd…
An understanding of control systems, electronics and electrical hardware.
An understanding of software development.
Experience in using SolidWorks and PDM/PLM software.
Experience in generating realistic schedules and tracking progress against them.
The ability to compellingly present ideas to a group audience, influencing others.
An Engineering Chartership.
